This weekend I went to Spokane Washington to visit some friends. Needless to say we had a great time and ate a lot. We drove to Coeur d'Alene Idaho and when to this resort, (the above sketch which I thought resembled the Hollywood Tower Hotel) ate some Greek food, and went on a boat ride where we paid $1 for hot chocolate. It was fun and filling.
I was reading a post on Ted Mathot's blog where he suggests boarding scenes from movies in order to see how they were constructed. So, I thought I'd give it a try and I took the scene from Shawshank where Andy Dufrense plays the opera record over the PA system. It was really interesting to do and I learned quite a bit.
These were head studies that I did over the last semester. Most are 2 hour studies, the gal in the oriental dress and the gal in the pioneer type clothing were both about 6 hours.
Now that school is over, I decided that I'd actually try to update my blog. So this will be a post overload so to speak. These are more pages from my portfolio. I might have posted some of these previously, but oh well.
Before I graduate, I have to participate in a BFA show. I titled it, "What Was I Thinking?" To show my thought process when it comes to creating a character. These are a few pages from the show/my portfolio.
I have the good fortune of having Don Seegmiller as an instructor at school. I painted these after a tutorial he gave on how to paint teeth.
The portrait above is of my wife. It's just Raw Sienna oil on canvas. The middle caricature is a former fellow student and the one below is Bill Maughan.
