Frank Burly

My friend Mark introduced me to a series of books by John Swartzwelder, writer of 59 episodes of the Simpson. It's great satire, I've enjoyed them thus far. Anywho, these are some sketches I did of what I thought Detective Frank Burly, the main character of these books, might look like. It's a mixture between Jack Black, John Swartzwelder, and William Hootkins (better known for his memorable role as "Porkin's" from Star Wars, Major Eaton, from Raiders, and of course Lt. Max Eckhardt from Batman)

Nick Miller

Remember when everybody got Nick Miller haircuts and wore Castleton t-shirts?

Warm Up

It's been a long time since I've posted anything. This is a little warm up I did of a guy I saw riding the train this morning.

Moving

Right now I'm in the process of moving my family up to Portland Oregon. I got a new job working at Laika Entertainment. It's been quite the adventure. I'll try to post more interesting things as soon as we find a place to live things settle down a little bit.

Honest Abe

A friend of mine let met borrow The Civil War documentary by Ken Burns so I thought I'd paint this.

Rat • a • too • ee

This is long overdue, but on June 16 I had a chance to see a sneak peek of Ratatouille. Above is a little sketch I did of Remy. It doesn't do him justice, but he was fun to sketch.

I don't want to ruin it for the two, maybe three, people that read my blog, but the movie is absolutely amazing and beautiful. The story is superb, along the lines of Cyrano. Visually, it's wonderful both in its story telling and design. The characters are charming and the acting is superb. I like at the end of the credits where Pixar gives their 100% animation guarantee, no motion capture. I'm running out of adjectives so I'll just stop right here. Go see it!

D's Blog

This doesn't look anything like him, but my brother Dallas finally has posted on his blog after being dormant for a year.

Fairburn Hands & Figures

A friend of mine brought in The Fairburn System of Visual References. It was published in 1979 and has some dated, but good reference material.

Last Weekend

Last Friday I went and saw Pirates 3 and the next day I went to Moab. The top sketch is from waiting in the theatre lobby and the bottom two are from my trip. The very bottom one is from Arches National Park.
